Prevalence of Neuropediatric Diseases in a Child Population in Some Areas of Bogota, Colombia

Children not diagnosed with neurodevelopmental delay disorders (NDD) frequently experience difficulties in school that lead to school dropout or academic failure with consequent family, social and occupational problems. In 2004-2005, we conducted a cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of developmental delay among preschoolers in Bogotá (Colombia). Convenience samples were taken from various socioeconomic areas of the city. Parents and teachers were interviewed to identify children with possible NDD. The selected children were assessed with the abbreviated developmental scale (EAD-1) to define the prevalence of NDD.
