Description
Genetic polymorphisms in genes involved in DNA damage response and carcinogen metabolism may contribute to individual susceptibility to familial breast cancer. In this context, TP53 (p53), CYP1A1, CYP1B1, GSTM1, GSTT1, and GSTP1 are of particular interest because of their roles in processes such as DNA repair and cell-cycle regulation, the metabolic activation of potentially carcinogenic compounds, and their subsequent detoxification. The study of polymorphic variants in these genes among patients with familial breast cancer may help identify genetic profiles associated with an increased risk of disease and improve the understanding of interactions between genetic and environmental factors. In a Colombian population, characterizing these polymorphisms is particularly relevant given the population's genetic diversity and the possibility that specific variants or allele frequencies may influence susceptibility to breast cancer.
