Project Details

Description

During the course of 2018, within the framework of the UR Center's consulting project, Regional Visions, various types of analyzes were carried out on municipal territorial planning, the development of settlement systems and territorial occupation in three regions of the country: Caribbean, the territories between Montería and Sincelejo and the territories of Magdalena Medio.

This applied research work included carrying out field work, construction of cartography on satellite images, gathering of secondary information and the integration of information from the POT of 52 municipalities belonging to these regions.

The results allowed us to characterize the territories of each region and understand the patterns of urban, suburban and rural development in light of the current territorial planning.

As a result, we have significant inputs to now carry out various types of comparative analyzes between the regions, so that, as academic research, it contributes to the knowledge of the dynamics of urban development and diverse occupation that are evident in strategic territories of the country.

The intention of this proposal is to have a young researcher to support the structuring stage of various alternatives for research articles derived from the analyzes carried out, and to complement the work of constructing the conceptual frameworks and comparative analyzes necessary for the development of one of those articles.

Commitments / Obligations

The final result of the research seeks to disseminate, through a research article in an indexed journal written in English, the findings derived from the complementary comparative analyzes between three regions of the country: the Caribbean, the territories between Montería and Sincelejo and the territories of the Magdalena Medio.

The findings are intended to be presented in light of one of the following regional themes: urban growth (in demographic terms, urban expansion and density), which depends in part on adjusted and updated data from the 2018 Census, occupation patterns of urban, rural and suburban land, or the dynamics of rural land development, derived from the tensions between planned uses and actual uses of the land.

It is necessary to mention that the project seeks to continue, subsequently, with the analysis and writing on the topics that, due to time issues, cannot be addressed or included in the research article.
