Project Details

Description

In a general framework of long term cooperation between Norway, Guatemala and Colombia, four partner universities propose to work together to foster graduate student mobility and academic development in higher education within the broader field of sustainability studies with funding support through the NORPART programme for five years. The project has three goals which are strongly interlinked. The first goal (1) is to enhance student mobility between Guatemala, Colombia and Norway at Masters and Ph.D. level, through Ph.D. collaboration, student exchange and study visits, field work, internship or work placements and summer schools between the four institutions. In order to cater for increased student mobility, both between the South partners and in a South-North perspective, the universities need to work with adjusting and synchronizing their curriculum and enhance academic, administrative and internationalization capacity according to international standards. The second and third goals are therefore: (2) to foster academic development at UVG, USAC, El Rosario and USN through mobility, curriculum development, and academic capacity building; and (3) to strengthen the administrative internationalization processes at those universities through mobility, training for trainers, and administrative capacity building. The project is based on a long-term institutional and academic cooperation, it is well planned and anchored in strategies and priorities at all involved institutions, and consists of a strong coordination team. A number of concrete results are outlined. 60% of the project budget is dedicated to student mobility activities both South- South and North-South. The remaining funds are allocated to activities necessary to create an efficient framework for the mobility. With its interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach the cooperation will have be of major benefit for the sustainability education, research and practice at the four institutions.
