Introduction:

The mental health of university students in the health area is generally influenced by various factors such as the academic environment, lifestyle, level of physical activity, academic load, among others.

The current situation of social isolation and quarantine as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic has generated effects on the learning process and the previously mentioned factors that require further investigation.

Objective: Establish the relationship between the academic environment and levels of physical activity with the mental health of university students in the health area of the Universidad del Rosario of Bogotá D.C., in times of pandemic.

Methodology: This research is an analytical, descriptive, cross-sectional study that will be applied to 380 university students from the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Universidad del Rosario, who will be chosen by convenience.

In this sample, the academic environment will be evaluated with the DREEM questionnaire, the levels of Physical Activity with the IPAQ questionnaire (short version) and Mental Health addressed from the appearance of depressive and anxious events, evaluated with the Whooley, PHQ-screening questionnaires. 9 and WAQ, Beck Anxiety Inventory, respectively.

In addition to this, the characteristics of the subjects such as sex, age, socioeconomic status and lifestyle will be investigated using self-administered questionnaires.

This research will be carried out during 2021.

Based on the normality of the results, means comparison tests will be carried out for the numerical variables and chi-square for the qualitative variables and the correlations between the variables physical activity, university environment and mental health (depressive and anxious episodes) will be estimated. from the Pearson correlation coefficient. For these analyzes statistical significance will be established based on the p value <0.05.
