Introduction to urban space analysis: an empirical method Phase II

Project: Other project

Description

The following proposal for the IFP call for proposals is a nomination for the purpose of obtaining the complementary resources needed to complete an instrumental module of a major pedagogical project, which was awarded the innovation prize in 2015. The project, originally called Introduction to Urban Space Analysis: An Empirical Method, is an initiative that was born from the need to have a set of conceptual and methodological support resources to guide and promote the autonomous work of the debutant students of Urban Management and Development (GDU) in their process of building the bases for the development of competencies.
and basic skills of interpretation, representation and spatial analysis. The consolidation of these basic skills and competences are fundamental both for optimising the training process itself of the Urban Managers, and for their subsequent professional exercise (See context and justification of the complete project. Annex 1).
The process of developing an idea for an interactive e-book was undertaken, based on the experience with the application of the pedagogical methodology developed especially for the chair-workshop Urban Territory and Space (TyEU), which constitutes the introductory disciplinary subject to the GDU programme, after obtaining the FIP resources.
This concept, initially simple, evolved into something more ambitious that attracted the interest of Editorial UR as a possible pilot for the construction of a technological platform for the autonomous development of e-books by teachers. With the available resources, the process of detailed design of the conceptual structure and contents was advanced, in addition to the work of defining the criteria and evaluating the most appropriate platform options for its realization. At the same time, the cartography module, composed of five tutorials designed with the pedagogical advice and accompaniment of CEA, was carried out to guide the students step by step in the process of developing cartographies corresponding to different stages of the process of application of the analysis methodology worked in the course. The seed capital allowed to finance support for the own realization of the designs, the construction of scripts, the recording of the videos step-by-step, the audio recording with orientations and the experimentation with a preliminary in-house post-production process, from which a model of each tutorial was obtained. This material requires, however, to be professionally edited in order to achieve the standard of audiovisual quality needed to be used by the students. With the support of the Pedagogical Innovation Fund 2017-2018, it is hoped to bring this collective effort to a successful conclusion.
