Impact of functional training with combined Pilates and TRX exercise techniques on scapular dyskinesia in a road cycling athlete: case report.

Description

A 36-year-old road cyclist who attended the outpatient physiotherapy service at the Movement Clinic Laboratory of the Universidad del Rosario located at the Hospital Méderi due to chronic pain in the cervical-dorsal spine. The physiotherapeutic diagnosis was scapular dyskinesia. The physiotherapeutic intervention included a program of ten sessions of functional training with combined Pilates and TRX exercise techniques for four weeks. The intervention decreased pain intensity (75% according to VAS and 83% according to the Laitinen index); improved scapular symmetry (50% to 100%) and significantly decreased trapezius muscle over-activation descending fibers 41%(right) and 65% (left), (p < .001). This study may aid clinical decision making in planning a rehabilitation program based on neuromuscular control techniques for individuals with scapular dyskinesia-related cervico-dorsal pain.
