Impacto de los niveles de expresión de mamoglobina en la desregulación transcripcional de microRNAs y su aplicación clínica en cáncer de mama

Project Details

Description

Cancer is a group of diseases caused by cell dysfunction, as a product of the accumulation of mutations, which can lead to changes in the gene expression profile, which direct the metabolic and morphological transformation of the cell towards an option focused on proliferation. The events that occur and the molecules that participate can be evaluated as biomarkers of the presence of the disease, such is the case of mamoglobin expression in breast cancer. This type of cancer causes many deaths around the world, and in women it is the first cause of death from cancer in the world and in Colombia. Therefore, evaluating the impact of the different levels of mamoglobin expression in breast tumors could have a clinical application, if a relationship is established with the deregulation of the expression of miRNAs, which have been shown to be highly relevant. . in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of many types of cancer.
Goals:
This project aims to establish whether the different levels of mammoglobin expression in mammary tumors have an impact on the deregulation of miRNA expression that leads to the generation of a new tumor subclassification.
Methodology: samples fixed in formalin and embedded in paraffin from 45 patients will be used for RNA extraction and the expression of mamoglobin will be evaluated by qPCR and that of miRNAs by the NanoString method. The results will be confirmed with qPCR and a bioinformatics analysis.
Expected results: list of genes encoding deregulated miRNAs according to mamoglobin expression levels, which could contribute to a new subclassification of mammary tumors.
