Description

Comprehensive management of the metabolic syndrome (MS) at the population level has focused on promoting healthy behaviors such as physical activity, fruit and vegetable consumption, and discouraging tobacco and alcohol consumption in the adult population, but results have been poorly encouraging. Nonetheless, SM control programmes, especially in countries such as Colombia, do not always achieve the targets for reducing the prevalence of PM for reasons ranging from low diagnostic coverage and poor adherence to non-pharmacological recommendations.

It is necessary to identify complementary low-cost and easily accessible strategies for managing the associated factors and components of SM, such as regular physical exercise for its potential effects on improving insulin sensitivity and stimulating the activity of the enzyme endothelial nitric oxide synthase endothease (eNOS), its antioxidant, antiplatelet and anti-inflammatory properties.

Therefore, a clinical study is proposed to evaluate the effect of strength training and consumption of flavonols on endothelial function, insulin sensitivity and SM components in a group of Colombian adults.
