Description
The expression of the Microphthalmia-Associated Transcription Factor (MITF) in melanocytic cell lines and peripheral blood of patients with melanoma represents an important area of research for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the initiation, progression, and dissemination of this malignancy. MITF is recognized as the master regulator of melanocyte biology, controlling the expression of genes involved in cellular differentiation, proliferation, survival, migration, and melanogenesis. Altered MITF expression has been associated with distinct tumor phenotypes, ranging from highly proliferative cells to more invasive and metastatic populations. Comparative analysis of MITF expression in melanocytic cell lines and peripheral blood samples may identify molecular signatures associated with disease progression and evaluate its potential as a biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic monitoring. Furthermore, the detection of MITF expression in peripheral blood using molecular techniques such as reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) offers a minimally invasive approach for patient follow-up and supports the development of personalized medicine strategies for melanoma management
