Expectations for the future in a demobilized population: a longitudinal study

Project: Research Project

Project Details

Description

This research project aims to follow the life trajectories of a group of FARC ex-combatants over 20 years, in order to document the changes and transformations in the lives of these people and Colombian society during these years.
The current demobilization of Colombia's largest and oldest guerrilla has caught the attention of academics and journalists who have produced a wide variety of written and audiovisual documents about the historical moment in which we are living. However, the processes of change, both in subjects and in societies, do not occur in a single moment. These are longer-term processes that require sustained study. Longitudinal studies, unlike other types of methodologies, allow us to capture processes in the medium and long term. Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions: What are the expectations and uncertainties of the demobilized population? How do these expectations and uncertainties differ in relation to gender, age, geographical origin and the rank of the members of the sample? How do these expectations and uncertainties change over time? and in what ways do these life trajectories reflect changes or continuities in Colombian society?
