Project: Research Project

Project Details

Description

Dengue, transmitted by Aedes aegypti, is a growing public health problem, exacerbated by climate change, urbanization, and human mobility. Traditional control strategies have had limited results, making an interdisciplinary approach based on the “One Health” concept, which recognizes the interconnection between human, environmental, and animal health, essential.
This project will explore how some core competencies of the One Health approach, such as teamwork, transdisciplinarity, and community cooperation, are being implemented in dengue control teams, with the aim of providing evidence to reinforce the implementation of prevention and control strategies in work teams.
The study will be conducted in Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, and Guatemala to explore, through a descriptive cross-sectional study, the knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding dengue and the One Health Approach among professionals in the fields of health, environment, veterinary medicine, and other areas who are working in dengue control and surveillance teams. In Colombia, the study will be implemented in the municipality of Bucaramanga and in the department of Cundinamarca. The results will provide evidence to help design strategies that promote the incorporation of the One Health approach into dengue surveillance and control actions to improve interdisciplinary cooperation and the effectiveness of interventions. We believe that greater coordination among professionals will optimize strategies to mitigate dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
