Curriculum Renewal in Occupational Therapy: From the Voices of Today to the Challenges of Tomorrow

This project focuses on analyzing and updating the curriculum of the Occupational Therapy program at the Universidad del Rosario, with the aim of addressing the current challenges facing the profession and higher education in local, regional, and global contexts. It seeks to reflect on the educational objectives, constructive alignment, pedagogical coherence, and adaptability of the curriculum in the face of social, political, health, technological, and cultural transformations.

This initiative aligns with institutional and program self-assessment processes and aims to develop an innovative, relevant, and socially recognized curriculum proposal.
The main objective is to design an educational project grounded in a critical reflection on trends in higher education and Occupational Therapy, alongside narratives from students, faculty, and employers. It employs a qualitative approach comprising three phases: documentary, analytical, and constructive. The proposed methods include literature reviews, focus groups, and interviews with key stakeholders, enabling an understanding of their experiences and perceptions of the current curriculum and reflections on the needs for a curriculum relevant to the future.

The expected results are framed within the analysis of current educational and professional trends, which will enable the renewal of the Program Educational Project (PEP) and the curriculum in response to contemporary scientific, social, and cultural transformations.

General Objective:
To design an educational plan for the Occupational Therapy program based on an analysis of local, regional, and global trends in occupational therapy and higher education, as well as narrative evidence from students and professionals regarding the current training curriculum, in order to propose an innovative curriculum that addresses current and future disciplinary and training needs.
Specific Objectives:
1. Describe current local, regional, and global trends in Occupational Therapy and higher education.
2. Analyze the Program Educational Plan (PEP) and the current curriculum of the Occupational Therapy program at the Universidad del Rosario in light of institutional guidelines and local, regional, and global trends in the profession and higher education.
3. Identify the perceptions of students, graduates, faculty, practicum supervisors, and employers regarding the relevance of the current curriculum in light of contemporary educational, training, legal, political, cultural, social, technological, and health-related demands.
4. Reformulate the Program Educational Project (PEP) based on institutional guidelines, improvement plans, and the findings of the analytical phase.
5. Design a curriculum and course of study that responds to institutional guidelines, dimensions of diversity (interculturality, diverse abilities, gender), and current trends trends in occupational therapy and higher education, and promotes intentional, critical, flexible, and socially relevant educational pathways.
