Description
One of the problems that we observe in the development of the research activities of the seedbed is the lack of effective access to the administration of justice by citizens and the possibilities offered by technology to reduce the barriers that keep people away from legal resources.
In this sense, from the seedbed we have been working with the Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the Universidad del Rosario in the creation and implementation of a legal chatbot to address the queries of the vulnerable population that requires free legal assistance. Chatbots are computer applications based on artificial intelligence, which allow the simulation of conversations with a person, by issuing automated responses to queries, which, in this case, are of legal content, raised through natural language. Their operation is based on the bot with the ability to perform tasks autonomously, i.e. without the help of a human. They operate in messaging applications that incorporate a conversational interface.
In the development of the implementation of the chatbot for the attention of the users of the Legal Clinic, we have evidenced the need for a document that, as a result of research, analyzes the legal risks associated with the implementation of this technological tool. In the preliminary research work, we have found that there is no good practice guide or other type of document that includes the measures to be taken when chatbots are implemented.
To address this need that links the University's outreach work with formative research, funding is required for two key aspects:
(i) Technical training to the members of the seedbed on the software that allows the chatbot to function.
