Description

Since 2005, Cartagena Cómo Vamos Program (CCV) and Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar (UTB) in Cartagena, have been measuring the main variables of the public transport system in the city. The main variables collected and analyzed are those related with average time in vehicle, length of the trip, vehicle speed, and some other variables related with the quality of the trip and the vehicle. After the year 2016, when the Bus Rapid Transit BRT (Transcaribe) system started to operate in the city, the measurement of these variables was focused exclusively on its performance in order to facilitate and support policy decisions related to the implementation of the BRT system in the city. The first versions of the exercises were performed using paper, pencils and chronometers. In the year 2018 a mobile phone App called TransQA developed by the UTB started to be used. The goal using the App was to increase the amount of the information collected and the accuracy of the measurements. Based on the mapping experience of UTB, CCV and Fundación Corona in Cartagena and the previous experience of Universidad del Rosario mapping urban transport in Bogota, this project seeks to join forces between these organizations for a comprehensive approach that seeks to collect and process urban transport data in Cartagena.
