Project: Creation project

Project Details

Description

In 2024, the “VocaLab: Vocal Practice Research Incubator” will be established, directed by career professor María José Villamil Rodríguez. Its activity will cover three lines of research: (i) studying teaching methods in singing and stage voice; (ii) experimenting with conventional and expanded vocal styles and techniques; and (iii) exploring and staging ancient and contemporary vocal repertoires.

AulaVocal will be the first project of this seedbed, which plans to consolidate itself between January and March 2024. The project will address three essential needs: (1) facilitating dialogue between music teachers and students to apply effective teaching strategies; (2) responding to the interest of musical theater students in acquiring vocal teaching tools applicable to their training and other contexts; and (3) providing a space for socialization and visibility of VocaLab's research, creation, and I+C results.

AulaVocal – Repository of Experiences in Vocal Practices will be a FaCrea website that will initially host a series of eight podcasts on singing and vocal practices, exploring the creation of teaching strategies and the development of new techniques applied to musical theater. These podcasts, produced by students and teachers, will be research projects that will be recorded and published in audio format on the website, which will be accessible to the entire academic community through the university's digital resources and other platforms. In the future, it will contain other research+creation results and content related to the field of study of VocaLab and the Singing Department.

This project will be crucial in launching the activities of the VocaLab seedbed, conceived as a space for generating knowledge and creative content in the Faculty of Creation, and a research pillar for the future undergraduate program in Singing that will enter Ruta de Creación in 2024. The aim is to encourage research and learning in the field of vocal practice, promoting collaboration between students and vocal educators to enrich and develop the musical community in general.
