Introduction: Muscle strength plays a key role in the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) during the various stages of the life cycle. With a view to an adequate design of NTSD prevention programs, it is necessary to have a population base of muscular fitness and nutritional level in particular in Colombian infants. We postulate that children, adolescents and university students present lower prehensile strength values early on show signs associated with NCD such as high blood pressure, increased adiposity, overweight/obesity, dyslipemia and hyperglycemia. This relationship could be key in the genesis of NTSDs, however, there are no population data available at the time that prove this hypothesis.

Objective: To determine the relationship between prehensile strength levels with early manifestations of cardiovascular risk such as blood pressure, adiposity index, body weight, body mass index, nutritional level, waist circumference, lipids and glycemia in a sample of Colombian children, adolescents and youth.

Methodology: An observational, descriptive and transversal study will be carried out. Differences in the frequency of food consumption, habitual physical activity and attitude to physical-sports practice, fitness level (strength and aerobic), anthropometry and body composition, nutritional level, lipid levels and blood glucose will be evaluated, and the degree of correlation/association between these variables will be evaluated.

Expected results: It is hoped to find that the decrease in prehensile strength is related to the nutritional level of the subjects, and can also be considered as a component of physical condition that should be included in epidemiological surveillance systems in health as suggested in this research.
