here are incriminated molecules in the osteoimmunology of some autoimmune diseases such as the chemokine CCL20 (MIP-3) and its receptor CCR6 which are expressed in the subchondral bone in patients with RA and play an important role in cells directly involved in bone tissue remodeling (osteoblasts and osteoclasts). Macrophage inhibitory cytokine 1 (MIC-1) has been detected in synovial tissue specimens from RA patients and its allelic variations have been associated in some studies with the appearance of erosions in a very short time of disease progression as well as with a more aggressive and treatment-resistant type of disease. Through this work we have demonstrated the presence of the MIC 1 polymorphism for the SNP rs1058587 allele G in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in a frequency similar to the healthy control population, from a group examined from two Colombian cities. Although no significant direct association of this polymorphism with radiographic progression has been demonstrated in this group of patients, the results of this work indicate that the MIC-1 polymorphism has an influence on some traditional cardiovascular risk factors in patients with RA.
