Comparative Analysis of Health Systems

Project: Consultancy project

Project Details

Description

This study focused on analyzing the structural elements of six health systems as a whole, while investigating how each system responds to the challenges posed by the context in which it is inserted. The purpose of this was to identify which elements make them efficient and which were the components of each system according to the social structure of the countries that have developed them.
The analysis indicates that health systems have shown progress in terms of the millennium development goals, such as reducing infant mortality and controlling infectious diseases, but it is evident that they are weak in dealing with the current epidemiological situation, which is the increase in chronic diseases.
This represents a challenge for the current systems since they are organized to provide acute care (Paim et al, 2011) but not to respond to a continuum of care in diseases that require coordination of care. On the other hand, in general terms, countries with mixed care models (public and private), which offer different care schemes, with differences or restrictions in the type of services, have been considered more inequitable than those that tend to unify their health system.
