The Seedbed for Research in Biochemistry, Cancer and Radiobiology (SiBio) is a learning group made up of undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of biological and health sciences, and teachers from the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. It is part of the research system of the University of Rosario, through its association with the Clinical Research group and its registration with the Research and Innovation Directorate of the University of Rosario.

SiBio allows students to enter the world of translational research, proposing and developing research projects that incorporate techniques of Cell and Molecular Biology, Classical Biochemistry and Biochemistry of the latest generation (such as Metabolomics)aimed at optimising cancer diagnosis and treatment strategies, and at exploring new tools for cancer risk assessment. Also, thanks to collaboration with other EMCS research incubators, we explored the use of nanotechnology and other omic tools (genomics, transcriptomics) for solving health problems.

Research Lines: Determination of metabolomic profiles of non-communicable diseases, mainly cancer, and use of nanomaterials aimed at optimizing diagnostic and treatment strategies.

Objectives:

  1. Develop in students competences related to the different stages of biomedical research and the scientific method. Encourage students to be responsible and organize teamwork in order to carry out research projects.
  2. To investigate the effect of tumour microenvironments on cellular response and changes in the metabolism of cancer cells to ionizing radiation, to study tumor resistance to radiation therapy to optimize current cancer treatments.
  3. To explore metabolic profiles of different types of cancers to evaluate different risk factors, prognosis and treatment with a translational approach.
  4. To investigate the biological effect of nanomaterials and their possible application for the optimization of methods of diagnosis and treatment of non-communicable diseases, mainly cancer.
