Description:
In recent years at Universidad del Rosario, there has been a growing interest in the study of images from a social sciences perspective — exploring their content and form, the evolution of production methods over time, their functions and social uses, and ultimately their role as devices of social representation. This research group was established to bring together these initiatives from the School of Human Sciences and the Historical Archive. It is an interinstitutional research group, formed in collaboration with a researcher from Universidad Libre, and it aims to involve students and researchers from other institutions as well.
Objectives:
Main Objective:
To promote research and practices related to images (photographs, paintings, engravings, etc.) that enable an understanding of their production context, social functions, and potential as a means of representing individuals, realities, and sociocultural phenomena in both past and present.
Specific Objectives
- To analyze images as historical documents, which in many cases become heritage objects
- To encourage critical reflection on visual culture and history
- To propose individual or group projects for the dissemination, documentation, or study of Colombian visual heritage
Lines of Research:
- 1. The image and its history as representation and technique: Colombian cases, theoretical and practical reflections.
- 2. Photography as a historical document.
- 3. Photographic practice: thinking about and practicing the photographic craft.
