Organization profile

Gender, body and health studies are an important field in medical anthropology, body anthropology, social health studies and gender studies. Some of the most relevant authors note that these three categories are a social construction related to the various socialization processes in very different contexts, the rites of transition configured in the groups, the political forms of social demands, intersectional, representational and practical places, and power exercises.

Faced with health and gender, the body becomes a place of inscription, paradoxes and ambiguities. Although, this refers to the concrete, it is not an obvious. Although it is personal, it is not just a private matter, since it is the subject of culturally, socially, economically and politically elaborated codes. It is not an isolated reality, nor is it isolated, but it occurs in a whole, from the symbolic construction, from the significance and to the politicization. The body is a reality that transcends all the spaces of life. In this nursery we reflect on these interactions.

Research Lines:

  • Social studies of physical activity.
  • Social studies of health.
  • Gender and health.
  • Body and health.
  • Body and gender.

Objectives:

  1. To analyze the articulations between body, gender and health from theoretical and empirical approaches.
  2. Critically study the configuration of the health field and the health-disease-care/neglect-care process.
  3. To reflect on the body as a space in which the natural, the social, the cultural and the political are embodied and inscribed (incorporeal).
  4. To build an environment of exchange and learning-by doing short empirical exercises on issues that cross the body, gender and health.
