Description:
The environmental crisis of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss—and its impacts on the quality of the natural environment and the well-being of people—has become one of humanity’s greatest recent concerns. The objective of this research group is to understand how human decisions affect environmental quality, how society and institutions shape our demands to improve environmental quality and the sustainable supply of natural resources, and how effective public policies are designed to implement environmental improvements. Thus, in this research group, the complex interactions between economy, society, and environment will be studied through case studies. These case studies aim primarily to understand the various environmental issues in order to influence public policies. The group adopts a transdisciplinary and highly applied orientation by utilizing different quantitative methods and spatial analysis. Additionally, great emphasis is placed on learning outside the classroom, where participation in field trips is fundamental to the research process. The theoretical foundation of the group is mainly based on the disciplines of Environmental Economics, Urban Ecology, and Political Ecology.
