Organization profile

Co-director (optional): There is no co-direction figure. However, the coordination and execution of the research projects of the Semillero is being managed by Sebastian Polo Alvis as a form of continuation of the work of the Semillero due to the leave of Prof. Enrique Serrano López.

Profile of the Semillero: The work of SEMICOEX is developed within the framework of a joint work for the observation, analysis and prospection of regular and irregular migratory phenomena of our nationals to other countries. Through the follow-up of migratory flow trends, as well as the systemic analysis of the migratory panorama of the destination countries, the research group intends to deepen in the nature and development of Colombian migrations abroad during the last 50 years, in obedience to the growing relevance of migrations as shaping elements of political, economic and social processes in the receiving countries as well as in our country.

Work methodology:  Within the methodologies implemented for SEMICOEX's research work, multidisciplinary approaches are implemented that correspond to the approaches of the research to be developed. From the deep consultation of historical, economic and social processes, through statistical census revisions and the construction of geographic products, to the multidisciplinary approach within sociological, psychosocial, econometric research axes, among others.

Pre-requisites for admission (optional): Students of International Relations or Political Science from the fifth semester onwards, or Master's degree students of the programs offered by FEIPU.

Disciplines of the seedbed: Within the disciplines of the seedbed, beyond those defined in the Faculty (Political Science and Government, and International Relations), all contributions recommended by any branch of the social sciences that are relevant to the object of the seedbed are considered relevant.

Does the research group have the participation of other academic units of the UR or other universities?: Although it is not currently working jointly with any unit, research cooperation networks have been established with the Group for the Study of International Migrations and Vulnerabilities of the Universidad Santo Tomás, along with the joint work in various co-authorship cooperations with researchers from the Universidad de Chile, Universidad Católica de Pereira, Universidad de Cuenca, among others.
